A4ID is a global charity with a vision to see the law and lawyers play their full part in the global eradication of poverty. The mission of A4ID is to be an authoritative voice of the legal community, to inspire and enable lawyers to join the fight against poverty, and to ensure that legal support is available for those engaged in that fight.
A4ID seeks to recruit a dynamic, vibrant and experienced Policy, Research and Learning (PRL) Officer that will champion and be responsible for supporting the development of A4ID’s policy, research and learning portfolio. In collaboration with the Programmes Team and under the supervision of the Policy, Research and Learning Lead, the PRL Officer will conduct cutting-edge and rigorous research, write policy papers and briefs and creative content for articles, reports, and presentations, to communicate A4ID’s policy recommendations.
Also, the postholder will have the opportunity to work with experienced staff across the organisation, and the PRL Officer will ensure that A4ID has up-to-date, relevant evidence and creative policy solutions on salient issues as delegated by the Policy, Research and Learning Lead in close consultation with the CEO, CPO and the Programmes team. They will contribute to the effective delivery and successful administration of the Law and Development Training Programme (LDTP) in the UK and in the development and roll out of other learning offerings in close consultation with the PRL Lead and the Programmes team. The role requires a deep understanding of the intersection between law and international development, strong analytical skills, and ability to translate complex research data into actionable policy recommendations.

Key Responsibilities
PROGRAMME DELIVERY AND OPERATIONS
- The Policy, Research and Learning (PRL) Officer will be responsible for carrying out rigours and cutting-edge research and policy recommendations that will fit into the broader A4ID knowledge hub.
- Assist the Policy, Research and Learning Lead in producing evidence-based policy briefs on strategic thematic Sustainable Development Goals issues being executed by A4ID.
- Support the Policy, Research and Learning Lead in designing, delivering and quality-assuring A4ID learning products, policy deliverables and research projects, including training/learning events, briefings and publications.
- Actively collaborate and work collaboratively with other programmes across A4ID in expanding strategic alliances and partnerships with relevant stakeholders such as academic institutions, and think tanks for policy, research and learning purposes.
- Assist the Policy, Research and Learning Lead in facilitating training programmes, workshops and other internal learning sessions to build staff capacity.
- Support the Policy, Research and Learning Lead in enhancing A4ID influence through advocacy and thought leadership outputs derived from innovative, evidence-based research and policymaking.
- Capture and disseminate lessons learnt from projects and initiatives to inform future work.
- Provide evidence to support the strategic planning and growth of the learning portfolio of A4ID.
- Identify potential strategic alliance and funding opportunities to support A4ID workstreams and objectives.
- Uphold good working dynamics, open communication channels and promote high morale.
OUTREACH AND INFLUENCE
- In close coordination with the Policy, Research and Learning Lead, the postholder will generate research and policy ideas that support the overall A4ID mandate.
- Communicate research findings and policy recommendations through various channels including reports and presentations.
- Support the different programmes at A4ID by identifying potential opportunities to develop joint research projects, publications, events and speaking/participating on panels.
- Be actively involved in the production of A4ID publications and dissemination of outputs.
- Assist in promoting opportunities and knowledge sharing between A4ID stakeholders and partners in the UK and abroad (including funders, the development and legal sectors, the UK government, the judiciary, professional bodies, civil societies and academic institutions).
ROLE UK PROGRAMME
- The PRL Officer will work closely with PRL Lead and ROLE UK to deliver the knowledge hub activities and achieve ROLE UK indicator targets. All responsibilities below will be delivered in collaboration with and with assistance to the ROLE UK team.
- As part of the ROLE UK programme objectives of generating evidence indices of activity success and impact, the PRL Officer will collect and capture these evidence and indices and feed these into and develop the rule of law and partnership discourse and communities of practice.
- The PRL Officer will assist the PRL Lead in facilitating and leading workshops and participating in workshops by third parties, working with the legal sector to improve the development impact of its pro bono international work, including its guidance, thematic reflections, state of play and next steps.
- PRL will assist the PRL Lead to identify the need for an external consultant to help deliver assignments/partnership activities through responsive research.
