Announcement!
We are delighted to announce that Advocates for International Development (A4ID) and Law Works have agreed to merge and become a single organisation. We hope to complete the merger by mid-summer. As two of the leading charities in the sector providing vital access to legal services for those who need it most, the merger will create a stronger, more resilient, efficient and effective organisation that is better able to meet the increasing demand we are seeing.
The merged entity will, amongst other things, be a combined brokerage for the provision of domestic and international pro bono legal assistance for individuals, NGOs, and community-based organisations.

Our mission
To be a voice of the legal community, to inspire and enable lawyers to join the global fight against poverty and to ensure that legal support is available for those engaged in that fight.
The Sustainable Development Goals
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were agreed by 193 countries at the United Nations General Assembly in September 2015. They set 169 targets and further indicators that every UN member state will use in framing their agendas and political policies until 2030. Read more
How we do it
We believe that the law can and should be used more effectively to eradicate global poverty.
But we know that in many instances the law is a barrier to sustainable international development.
Because unequal access to legal expertise can prevent development we ensure everyone engaged in the fight against poverty has access to free legal support.
We have a network of over 50,000 legal experts and to date we have facilitated over £30 million worth of free legal advice for more than 700 development organisations.
We play a strategic role in creating effective and efficient solutions to eradicating global poverty.
Engaging the legal profession in that process, we work towards finding and implementing legal solutions to development challenges.
Our projects increase the impact of development organisations’ work while also influencing policy decisions, supporting social enterprise and empowering local communities.
We work in partnership with lawyers and development organisations to raise awareness about the role law can play in tackling poverty.
We enable lawyers and development organisations to share knowledge and develop new responses to fighting global poverty.
