What we do
We draw together the legal, academic and development communities. By turning strong legal minds to the question of international development, we provide a powerful tool for groups seeking to secure the Millennium Development Goals worldwide.
Pro bono legal advice
Through our innovative broker service we bring together legal experts and those working towards the Millennium Development Goals, ensuring all those who need legal advice can access it.
We help development organisations to understand what their legal needs are and then put them in touch with the legal experts who can assist.
We have a network of more than 39,000 lawyers around the world who provide free legal advice to development organisations, civil society groups, bar associations, developing country governments and social enterprises.
The legal support they provide can help development organisations in a number of ways, from improving their back-office operations to strengthening their advocacy campaigns.
In addition to ensuring all development organisations who need it can access free legal support through our network, we also play a strategic role in creating sustainable solutions to eradicating global poverty.
We do this by working in partnership with lawyers and development organisations to raise awareness about the role law can play in tackling poverty, enable them to share best practice and learning, and inspire them to develop innovative development projects by harnessing the power of the law.
A4ID runs many different events and training programmes aimed at raising awareness about the role that the law plays in international development.
We currently run training programmes for practising lawyers and law students, as well as running a series of Knowledge Groups which provide a forum for all those interested in law and development to explore key issues in more depth.
