Using legal support

There are many ways that legal support can benefit development organisations and improve their operations and programmes.

 A legal partner could:

- help you resolve disputes

- write a guide to a new law in simple language

- train you or your staff in particular areas of the law

- do research on an area of social, economic or cultural rights

- help if you need to find out about the law in other countries, or international law

- provide you with summaries of legal cases, and other legal resources

- help you buy or lease new land or premises

- advise you about your tax obligations

- advise you on the contracts you enter

- clarify your legal obligations to your staff, volunteers and clients

- check that documents produced by your organisation comply with defamation and copyright law

- give you environmental advice, for example regarding climate change law and carbon credits

- organisation policy on employment conditions, health & safety, anti-corruption measures

These are only a few suggestions. Please contact us if you would like to discuss your legal needs further.

Placing projects

It may be useful to know that there are some types of projects that we find it particularly easy to place. These include:

- projects for banking, corporate, tax and finance lawyers;

- microfinance work- advice on resolving disputes (but not actually representation in court)

- advice about what the law is on a particular issue, across many countries and internationally

- court case summaries

- research projects

- work related to climate change, energy saving and other environmental issues

- setting up agreements with corporations, for example to provide goods or services
