Law and Development Training Programme
"A perfect introduction to this area of law from top academics in their field. A fascinating programme."
~Stuart Doxford, Linklaters
About the Programme
A4ID's Annual Training Programme on Law and International Development is aimed at lawyers and provides an overview of the key issues that link law and international development.
Leading academics, development experts and legal practitioners explain current development challenges and the role that the law plays, both as a barrier and potential solution, to these challenges.
Speakers this year include Michael Woolcock, Lead Social Development Specialist at the World Bank; Christopher Bernard, microfinance consultant and former partner at Allen & Overy; and Amanda Perry-Kessaris, Professor of International Economic Law at SOAS.

Topics to be covered in this year's Programme include:
- Governance and the rule of law
- International trade and debt
- Intellectual property and public health
- Gender and development
- The environment and natural resources
- Development finance
- International security and the politicisation of aid
The Programme runs over a series of Saturdays throughout the academic year to fit with work schedules. It is CPD accredited.
Aimed at practicing lawyers, there is also the option for other interested individuals to attend particular sessions.
"The course is a great way to meet people with similar interests to yourself as well as gaining a background knowledge of development issues. The speakers have all been leaders in their fields meaning they have been able to give a great insight into current issues and themes that are affecting the development community."
~ Joanna Powis, Reed Smith
