Pro Bono Projects Volunteer

Emily works with the Pro Bono Brokerage team to support the allocation of projects among A4ID’s Legal Partners and carry out feedback calls with A4ID’s Development Partners.

Emily grew up in Colombo, Sri Lanka. After leaving school she volunteered, teaching English at the Samanala Valley School for English in Colombo and at the charity’s ophthalmic surgical clinic in the north of the country. Prior to joining A4ID, Emily read Law at the University of Sussex and graduated in July 2019. Her main areas of focus included Intellectual Property, Internet law, Clinical Negligence and International Arbitration. Whilst studying, Emily was a merit scholar and Treasurer of the Sussex Lawyers Without Borders Society. Having grown up in Sri Lanka and experienced how justice can be compromised during the chaos of civil war, Emily has always had a keen interest in the role the law plays in post-conflict reconciliation and development. This cultivated an interest in how the law intersects with the development sector as a whole.

Emily plans to become a barrister and will be commencing the Bar Professional Training Course in September 2019.
