Millennium Development Goals
The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) were agreed by world leaders at the UN Millennium Summit in 2000.
They are specific targets for reducing poverty, improving access to education, promoting gender equality, reducing child and maternal mortality, combating HIV and ensuring environmental sustainability by 2015.
Progress is being made towards the MDGs, but it is uneven and slow. A large majority of nations will only be able to achieve the MDGs by 2015 if they get substantial support – advocacy, expertise and resources - from other countries.
The legal profession has a lot to contribute. All the support which A4ID facilitates helps towards at least one of the goals, and usually several.
