13th July 2009, 6:45pm, St Paul's Cathedral, London
This event is kindly hosted by CMS Cameron McKenna.
Advocates for International Development is delighted to be joined by Archbishop Desmond Tutu for a lecture at St Paul's Cathedral on Monday 13th July 2009. From his years campaigning against apartheid to his current role as chair of the Elders, he has spoken out on a wide range of issues with passion and authority. Among his many achievements, he can also claim to be the only archbishop to have appeared on the cover of Vanity Fair, and the only Nobel Prize winner to have appeared in an Off Broadway show.
This summer however, he will be speaking on the moral challenge posed by the United Nations Millennium Development Goals, in what is sure to be a thought-provoking lecture. Archbishop Tutu will endorse the work of A4ID to engage lawyers to work pro bono in support of these goals and the eradication of global poverty, and will call on more lawyers to share their skills around the world with those that need them the most.
Speeches will also be made by Baroness Scotland QC, Attorney General of England & Wales and Chris Marshall, Chairman of A4ID. The lecture will commence at 6:45pm with doors open from 6:15pm. This will be followed by a small private reception in the crypt with the Archbishop himself.
Limited places are available. Please apply directly to desmondtutu@a4id.org. Priority will be given to A4ID Members and only people will a valid ticket from A4ID will be able to enter the Cathedral on the night.
